About the Author

Walters was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dena (née Seletsky) and Louis Lou Walters. Her father was a dress manufacturer. She was raised in a Jewish family. Walters attended Lawrence School, a private girls' school in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Walters first gained recognition as a news reporter in the early 1960s, when she was hired as a reporter for the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. She later became a co-host of the network's morning show, The Today Show, in 1974.

Walters has been known for her distinctive eye glasses since the early 1970s.
